Who We Are

Manbhaw Charitable Trust was first registered in 1995 by mother-daughter duo Mrs. Kamla Ram Bhawnani and Mrs. Dakshu Sunder Mansukhani, hence the name MANBHAW. Having cared for and then lost a paralysed husband in her later years, Kamla was acutely aware of the difficulties faced by women and the elderly and wanted to do something to help that demographic. She was also keen to ensure that future generations be helped early in thier lives in the hope and expectation that they would be more able to be self sufficent adults, so part of the focus was also turned to needy children.

The Trust was administered by Kamla until her demise in 1996, after which day to day management was taken over by Dakshu Mansukhani. Initial funding for the Trust came from shares bequeathed to the Trust by Kamla, and over the following years Dakshu was active in raising funds and was helped by generous donations from Mr. Stephen More, Mrs. Sheila Mohinani and Mrs. Nisha A. Sakhrani, plus numerous other friends and family.

Today the Trust is funded by income earned from the corpus and from ongoing donations by individuals and companies. Barring legal and statutory expenses, all funds raised go towards social impact. The work carried out by the Trustees is purely voluntary. You can learn more about how we work on the How We Do It page of this website.

With effect from 2019, Dakshu Mansukhani has moved to a mentoring role and the activites of the Trust are managed by her son Vikram Mansukhani and his wife Amolika Tikekar. Their commitment to helping others and changing lives for the better remain as strong as the founders and they take an active interest in the work carried out by the Trust.
